Where to Plant Heather

My daughter sent me a heather plant for Mother's Day. We live in northern Minnesota. Is it safe to plant it outdoors? We always get snow, sometimes between 3-4 feet and it stays for 5 months once it hits the ground.

Will the heather plant survive a winter like that?

If I can't plant it outside, what should I do with it to keep it alive?
