What's happening to my elephant ears?

One of my leaves fell off at the apex of the stem with black stuff on it looks like it was burned with a cigarette, and now the other big one has a big bite out of it, I found the other part laying near by, also what is this blackish brown stuff on the stalk and back side of the leaf? These are Jack's giants, my uprights are doing wonderful and I already have a flower on my first year upright.
