What to do with my variegated ginger plant damaged by freeze
by: Steve

Hi There

Hear are my suggestions for freeze damage caused to your variegated Ginger Plant. You don?t want to write off the plants as dead just yet.

Signs of plant life

The first thing you want to do is look at the plant stems. Are they pliable yet firm? If so, that is a sign the plant still has life. What you do next is cut into a stem, or peel back some bark and look for green colored insides. This is good indicator the plant is still okay.

Dead plant signs

Again, looking stem on the plant, if it is mushy, flattened, or brittle the area is likely dead. Next, look at the roots of the plant to see if they too are squishy and brittle. If they are the plant may be a goner.

Upon careful inspection you may find some parts of are dead while other are still kicking. When this occurs trim off the dead portion and allow the plant to regrow. You may wait until spring to do any trimming since another freeze may hit your area.

Good luck.

Let me know how things work out.
