Trying to identify a pear cactus plant, can you help?

by Tobias Kopsa
(Las Cruces, N.M.)

I recently came across a prickly pear cactus plant I have never seen before, can you help identify it?
The plant had several arms about 1/4" thick growing to a length of about 14" at the time. The arms also had a few pears on each arm. The pears both green and red were about 3/4" tall and just under the 1/2" wide. I am unsure if the plant is one plant or 2-3 clumped together. I live in Las Cruces, N. M.

Can you help?
