How To Grow And Care For A Snow Bush

The Snow Bush is one of the hottest and most sought after bushes this year. The name of this bush is deceiving, it really has nothing to do with winter, cold or even snow.

It is a tropical plant and native to places such as the South Pacific, Australia and Asia. But people all over the World are enjoying this beautiful bush and here are a few reasons why.

Colorful and Unique

The Bush produces a vibrant colorful array of foliage and produces burgundy colored zigzag stems that have breathtaking green, cream and pink leaves.

These slender stems are easily cut able so that you may use them to create vivid and beautiful flower arrangements. No other non blooming bush is known to produce such a unique growing habit or such vivid colors.

It grows to about five feet, but if you are in a frost free zone, you could see it grow as high as ten feet.

Keeping a Bush alive and striving in an area where it is not natively grown may not be as easy as growing a Pine Tree, but it can be done. Something to remember is that it likes warm heat and sun.

It should not be overly exposed to the mid day sun (when the sun is at its hottest) It should have at least four hours of filtered sun a day.

If you are in an area that is prone to frost, your Bush will stay alive but after the first bite of winter you are likely to see some of its leaves droop and drop. No fear though, they will come back.

How to Grow Your Own

This plant makes a beautiful centerpiece in the middle of a big container. Surround it with blooming and colorful flowers for a dazzling effect.

With the three different colored leaves of the Snow Bush, mixed with an array of colors from the blooming flowers, your neighbors will know that your green thumb is more than lucky. Your plant needs to be watered regularly; feel the soil around the container.

When watered properly, the soil should just yield to the touch. If the soil feels dry and crumbly, you have not watered enough; if it is slopping wet, more like mud, then you have over watered. Pruning Your plant

Your Snow Bush will grow tall and wide if led to fend for itself. While you may enjoy the jungle look it provides, your neighbors may get upset if your beautiful bush intrudes into their yard.

If you leave your plant alone and never prune it, it will slowly grow into the shape of a vase, but expert gardener’s advice against this.

The Bush branches are flexible and can be easily cut with gardener shears. Cutting your plant back once a month ensures new growth, a healthy Snow Bush and happy neighbors; not to mention that a well groomed bush just looks better.
