In this we are going to take a look at 5 common plants in the desert, and how they survive such harsh living conditions.It is a common belief that the desert is not an ideal place of living for humans, animals, and plants.

With that being said, we cannot ignore the fact that there are indeed people and animals that call the desert their home. Certain plants in particular live comfortably in the vast desert.

In order to survive in the extreme weather conditions of such Dry Climate, the plants in the desert must be able to survive with very little water at the same time with too much amount of sunlight.

A plant that is not strong enough will easily wilt and die in that vast land, just like some people and animals who dared to live, but failed miserably.

These Desert Plants serve as an important resource for all those who share the area with them. Over time, these plants have skillfully adapted some resources to enable them to live through without rain for months on end.

1. The first one on the list is the cactus plant. Cactus is the most common plant we see in the desert. In fact, many people would agree that a desert will never be a desert without cactus on it.

This is the kind of plant that loves extremely dry and hot climates. They are all over the desert area without so much as missing rain or water. Also, there are several species of cactus and each of them is having their own biological name.

2. Shrubs also do well in the desert. These plants in the desert have a root system, which is far-reaching. Their roots seep deeply into the desert soil, making them hydrated enough to last for a long time.

3. Ephemerals are small, flowering plants that use their roots to absorb the moisture from those very rare rainfalls, and then becoming inactive just until the next rainfall. Their flowers are really colorful which help them attract insects for their pollination.

4. Another plant that can survive in the desert through its extensive root system is the grass. Grass has the ability to continue to live deep inside the desert soil even if the upper portion has long been dead.

5. Many other plants in the desert with extensive root system can grow and thrive well in such place. Usually, these plants look for water sources deep into the ground to help keep them hydrated until the next visit of the rain.
