Organic gardening pest control, according to many government organizations, farmers, and gardeners, is the ultimate approach. Unlike the commercialized methods, the organic pest control does not contain or use harmful chemicals. Though depending on the type of organic methods used some of them do contain toxic materials, the toxic content is mostly least. Organic gardening pest control is done in 7 ways which when mastered can truly be effective. First, the pest is prevented. This can be done by employing beneficial insects into the garden. Some of the beneficial insects include the ground beetle, Ladybugs, tiger beetle, soldier beetle, Green Lacewing , hoverflies, and praying mantis . These beneficial insects can be attracted by planting particular plants. Second, identify the insect problem . Pests have diversified way of damaging plants. Depending on the insects, some of them suck the plant juice, while others feast on the foliage. Many of them reside under the leaves and some hide underneath the soil. Third, assess the damage done by the insects. It is important to evaluate where and what kind of damage is done to plants. Fourth, choose the insect control tactic. In this phase, the gardener selects the best organic gardening pest control. Fifth, implement insect control to do this, one must have essential information before you implement the chosen control tactic in the fourth stage. Sixth, re-assess the damage done by insect. Here, after the organic pest control is implemented, there should be signs of results or whether the method is indeed effective. Also, monitor the insect population and crop harvests—if applicable—to determine the effectiveness of the organic pest control implemented. Seventh, make a follow-up on the assessment. At times, the result may vary. Some may not be satisfactory, or many of the insects migrate into another area of the garden. Regardless, it is important to know how they respond to the organic gardening crop control method. Some gardeners plant botanical pesticides or plants that are a natural insect repellent. Among these are Neem, Pyrethrin, Rotenonce, and Sabadilla. For plants that are infested with aphids , flea beetles, spider mites, thrips, mealybugs , whiteflies, leafhoppers, and caterpillars, applying insecticidal soap is effective. If combined with rotenone extract, it can be more effective. If combined with botanical or horticultural oils, the insecticidal soap can manage the powdery mildew. The onion and mint are a natural insect repellent , particularly to the flea beetles. Others use boric acid to kill fleas, roaches, ants, grasshoppers, termites and body fungus diseases.
