The Oleander Plant

You will generally find Oleanders in such places as stream beds that are dry and they will grow to be approximately 2 to 6 meters tall. The branches will be erect and spread out. You will generally see the leaves come in pairs or in patches of three. The leaves will have a thick leathery feel to them, and they will be dark green in color. You will see that the flowers grow in clusters at the end of the branches and will pretty much be yellow, white or pink in color. Many people love the fact that the flowers usually have a sweet scent to them. This is a good hearty plant that will thrive well in subtropical areas. It is in these places that you will see oleanders used quite frequently as in places like local parks and even along the roadsides. The Oleander has proven to be a hearty plant and can withstand droughts so it can grown in places where many other plants will not grow. This type of plant with even make it through a light frost so it will work well in some cooler climates. It can be used as a summer or winter plant and can be grown both indoors as well as outdoors. Many people like to use this plant as a way to fence off areas or create a sense of privacy with the shrubs. You will find that this is a popular shrub around roadsides as well as in parks. Many people prefer to use it in their landscapes as it is very easy to maintain.
Pros: There is much controversy about this particular type of plant as it is a poisonous plant and can be harmful to your pets and it is practically impossible to get rid of. Some people like the fact that the oleander plant is a hearty plant that is hard to kill off. This means that it will be easy to take care of and it can provide a great deal of privacy as well as fragrant flowers.
It all really boils down to personal preference. If you think about it, there is a great deal of poisonous plants all around us and our pets do quite well. If you choose to go with the oleander plant, just be sure to plant it in an area that is away from your pets so that they will not be tempted to take a bite out of the plant.
