My Crown of Thorns

by Toni D
(New Orleans, Louisiana)

I purchased a very small red crown of thorns about 10 years ago and kept it in the house for a couple of years. As it never bloomed I moved it outside and boy did it take off! I have to repot to a larger one it at least once a year - it is about 5 feet high--very wide and never stops blooming. All my friends have "babies" from my plant--I just cut them off from a low hanging branch or take them close to the soil, put them straight into the mud in a small pot and they continue to bloom. It is on my porch which faces the west and is open at the north and sound end. As I live in New Orleans we hardly ever have a freeze so it stays outside all the time. I keep it moist and fertilize it every six months. It has large leaves--I also have two with smaller leaves that also bloom all the time--have had a white one for over a year and the leaves are beautiful and it is about 1 1/2 feet tall but has never bloomed! That I don't understand.
