dig one up and see if there is some kind of seed ect there. looks like little trees to me.

it's hard to tell w/o a more close-up view...could it possibly be a starting tree, like a maple? or black-walnut? or even quite possibly sumac???? If u can, take a more close-up pic & re-submit it, unless you've already got your answer. Good Luck!
