How "shady" is enough for the base of the plant?

by Suzanne
(Prattville, AL)

Bought 2 beautiful 24" Carolina Jasmines. Planted them along my fence where they'll get about 9 hours of central Alabama sunshine. What do I plant at their base to keep it shady and do you think I've chosen too sunny of a site? I just put them in so I can still move them if need be. Thanks. Suzanne
