Night Blooming Jasmine Growing- Up Not Out
by: Anonymous

I live in St. Michaels Maryland and grow three Night Blooming Jasmine which are now six years old now. I will say that the over ridding tendency of this plant is to grow up at every opportunity, I have had a little success growing them out by cutting them back in the winter, then as they return to life in the spring and throughout the summer I top them every two weeks, but only the tiniest new leaves at the top. The stalk will then split into two, then split again, topping each new stalk. The plant will during these periods of topping, produce more leaves at or near the lower part of the stalk and fill in nicely. Good luck

Also having grow
by: CrafterBerly

My plants also tend to grow up and not out. Everything: geraniums, marigolds, pepper plants, petunias... Am curious to find out why and what I can do about it.

Night blooming jasmine grows tall, but not wide.
by: steve

Hi Sarah.

This is Steve from different kinds of plants.

You brought up an interesting question about the night blooming jasmines growth pattern. All my night jasmines have mostly grow tall instead of wide. My largest plant, which is grown in the ground is about 10 feet tall. (I'll be adding new photos soon). Its branches are scraggly, growing up to 3 feet in length. But over all... my night blooming jasmine grows tall and does not generally fill in that much. I am now now attempting to grow 10 night blooming jasmines in a row so that they fill in as a shrub. I will do frequent trimming to get the desired affect. You may want to do the same on one of your plants or from a new cutting. Hopefully one of our other members will add their wisdom to help out.

Take care
Steve
