The ginseng plant is a native of the cooler areas of the world such as eastern Asia. The ginseng has five leaflets. The small flowers at the base of the leaves are a green and white mixture.

It is normally about 8 to 27 inches tall and has small red berries. Another name for ginseng is Fin-chen or Schin-seg which is the word for man root. The name originated due to the root of the ginseng which was in the shape of a human.

Ginseng has many nutrients as well as minerals and when the root is ground and added to water, many people have reported a boost in energy levels. This may be due to the minerals that it absorbs from the ground while growing. Some of these are:

Using an organic fertilizer will make the ginseng plant grow faster but the use of this fertilizer on a regular basis will cause the roots to develop as the lower value ginseng often found in the wild. The best fertilizer is either blood meal or bone meal which should only be added occasionally.
