Deformed Leaves, Rotted center, no new shoots
Last lot of leaves to come through were crinkled badly, cut the plant down to about 6inches high an it was mushy where the new leaf would have been, dug it up an the roots looked OK. It was a plant of approx 5ft, healthy as ever, an so was the one approx a meter away, which has now done the same thing. The leaves droop to the ground an go blotchy yellow, some of my dracenas are doing the same thing except dying from the top, the top is rotted an just drops off. The leaves go brown from the stem out an drop off big time, I have confidor the soil thinking it was those white curl grubs. I live in Cairns an they are a problem. But have dug the ground up everywhere an they are not there, we have had a lot of rain in months past but these plants usually like water, I grow them in my pond as well, no problem. Do you think its a fungus? What the hell is going on here, do i use a fungicide and drench the soil or what? I don't believe i am over watering, but like I said before we have had a few months of rain here in cairns an I water very carefully,to suit my plants. I am a gardener by trade but this is really pissing me off. my plants are dying. There's got to be a simple reason to this, root rot but they look fine, soil is good everything is growing well, I have fertilized with nitrogen and slow release an potassium for the flowering. what else do i do. I love my garden with a passion. Can you help me? Answer: Sorry to hear about your problem with the elephant ear plant. It sounds like a simple problem being overlooked. May I suggest you get back to the basics. Stop with the fertilizer and watering for now. Instead add some quality compost or gardening soil to the area and mix it till it 4-6 inches below the surface. You also should check the pH level to see if it is too acidic or alkaline. Give it a few weeks and see what happens. Good Luck
