Cutting Jasmine 2' down to replace fence

We have a fence covered star jasmine that is very beautiful, but we now need to replace our neighbor fence. The jasmine bush/tree is pulling the fence over. Question: Can we cut back the main stock to about 2' above ground so fence can be replaced and will it grow back. We will train it back on a lattice and keep it 6" away from new fence this time. Thanks.
