Croton Mammy

a variety of Codieaeum variegatum. It also sports a moniker ‘fire croton’ because of its brightly hued-foliage.

The new leaves emerge in light green with whiffs of yellow.

As the leaves mature, they turn green, red, orange and yellow glazed with bright red. Mature foliage has V shape.

The flowers, which are in star shape, bloom from long stalks early or late in summer. But they are only second to the awe that its leaves are capable of inciting in its viewers.

To make them appear at their best, Crotons should be planted on well-drained soil, from which they can grow a maximum length of 6 inches.

The Mammy, an evergreen shrub, is a tropical plant. The sunlight can be between partial and full. During summer, or in areas where the climate is really hot, The Mammy favors filtered sunlight.

It is imperative that Crotons are not exposed directly to the sun’s scorching heat as it can make the color to fade.

However, they should have proper sunlight, lest, the color on its leaves will turn to green once again. Providing ample space for growth is vital. The spacing can be between 24 and 36 inches, and 36 and 48 inches

Watering regularly is part of caring for Crotons. It does not need heavy watering. This Croton thrives on average amount of water.

Overwatering should be avoided as well. For indoor plants, make certain that the pots have proper drainage for excess water.

The soil surface should be accorded time to dry to the touch before watering if they are potted in 3, 4, and 6 inches of containers. If they are contained in 2 and 3 inches of container, allow them to dry from the surface before watering.

In colder climate, Crotons are among the plants that provide attraction as houseplants. In frost-free regions, the Mammy makes an impressive landscape sight.

Anywhere, they make a good impression being an accent or house plants. They are also perfect for hedges, border, foundation and tub specimens.

Fertilizing Croton Mammy is a way of feeding them. Bi-monthly is the recommended frequency. As spider mites are naturally attracted to them, you had better watch out for them.
