carolina jasmine

by Leona
(Apex, NC)

Will the flowers/leaves bloom out on the wooden part of the carolina jasmine? I have white carolina jasmine. The leaves froze off but the vine is still there. Do we need to cut it way back, or will leaves shoot out again? Thanks, Leona

HI there Leona.

The freeze may have done some long-term damage to the plants. For now, you will just have to wait a few weeks and see what happens when the growing season begins. What you can do now is cut out any weak, damaged or dead shoots. If the entire plant appears dead, remove about a 1/3 of the dead portion at the base of the plant. Give it some fertilizer, water and mulch to help it begin growing again. If the Carolina Jasmine was not completely killed by the freeze, New growth may appear within a month or so.

Leona,

Let me know how things turn out for you.
