Can my Carolina Jasmime withstand -22 degree temperature

by Patty
(Oklahoma)

Question:I am from Oklahoma and i have a carolina jasmine that has been very beautiful every year, but we had a record freezing temperature of -22 degrees one or two nights. Now all of its leaves are brown, no blooms of course. Is my jasmine dead or do I need to just cut vines back or take dead leaves off the vines? Any information you might have about this will be appreciated.

Answer: Here in Central Florida it is unusal when we get freezing temperatures. However last year and this year we had more than one night of freeze. The Carolina Jasmine seem to be just fine. They are not all be looking pretty, but they are not dead. This goes for many of the plants typically grown here. You should be fine. You can clean-up the plant by removing any dead leaves. No need to trim back the plant. If after the next month or to no new growth appears you can then do more heavy trimming. If you want to Buy Carolina Jasmine click the link to the left.
