A Bat Plant Thrives In Warm Climates And Can Be Grown As A Houseplant

The Bat Plant is unique and derives its common name because of the resemblance of its flower to the bat, which is a flying mammal.

For those who like the character of Batman or would like to own a different kind of plant, consider taking care of this Plant to add interesting exotic plants to your home and garden.

The Plant will thrive in warm weather conditions and can be grown as an indoor plant.

There are two kinds of these Plants which are the White Variety (Tacca Integrifolia) and the Black Variety (Tacca Chantrieri). As the name states, the colors of the flowers are what identifies it.

The Black Plant flowers bear more similarity to the bat. The White Plant has a certain variety that grows giant flowers.

If you want to own one of these Plants, take note that it takes 3 years before the flowers will appear when planted from seed. To enjoy viewing this kind of plant sooner, buy live plants from your local nursery.

The Plant will flourish in partial shade and rich soil that has excellent drainage properties. The Bat Plant develops a rhizome after 1 to 2 years that will become a new plant shoot. Take care not to overwater.

During spring and summer, it requires regular watering. The Plant goes dormant in the winter and watering should be lessened accordingly.

If the Plant is potted, ensure that there is enough space for the roots to grow. This plant has to be repotted in the spring. The starter size for the pot is around 6 inches and the largest size that you would need when the plant reaches maturity is 12 inches.

You would need to fertilize these Plants around twice a month during it’s growing season but there is no need to do so during cold weather.

With proper care, your Plants would grow and you will be able to enjoy looking at the unique flowers of these kinds of plants.
