Aphid Control Aphids, very simply defined are small insects which have mouth parts which are capable of sucking and piercing. The aphids usually infest the new and tender foliage on both the permanent and annual plants which come in the early summer or spring. They ingest all the fluid which comes from the stem tissue or tender leaf and robs it of all the nutrients. In fact aphids are instrumental in spreading disease by movement from one plant to another. Thus now the question arises how one can control aphid infestation . One would be surprised to know that one can control aphid infestation even without resorting to any kind of chemical methods. The following methods can be followed
Firstly one would need to search for the aphids on any kind of tender new growth or the portion under the leaf. A yellowing of the new growth or leaves is possible in the early summer or spring. Usually there are large colonies of aphids which are found together. They are known as infestations. It would be a great idea to spray a jet of water onto the part of the plant which is affected. The stream would successfully wash the insects of. This poses to be the easiest method of control. Another constructive method would be a spraying a combination of insect soap and horticultural oil. There are several chemical sprays which one can get. In case of serious aphid infestations, one can place a bunch of ladybugs in a vegetable crisper while watering the garden. An interesting proposition for control would be to attract several other predatory insets which will control or consume the aphid. This would be done by coreopsis, fennel, planting fill, and bright color flowers among others A good method of prevention of aphid would be to spray some oil spray which would be from the dormant season. One can spray it in winter to avoid recurring and severe infestations. All these methods work very well for aphid control. However there are certain pointers which one should keep in mind while undertaking aphid control. Firstly one should try the least of the toxic method to undertake pest control in their first step. Secondly watering the garden should be done prior to release of lady bugs. They would first refresh themselves with a drink and then eat the aphids. Thirdly one can try to grow plants which are naturally resistant to the breed of aphids.
