Angiosperm Plants can be Small Herbs, Shrubs, Giant Trees, Vines, Parasitic Plants, or lianas
The angiosperm plants are flowering plants in layman’s term. These plants are complete with true roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and occasionally seeds and fruits. They are the biggest group in the plant kingdom. Angiosperm plants are virtually everywhere, except in the highest mountaintops, the deepest oceans, and the regions enclosing the poles. Some live on other plants, hence they are called epiphytes. Others float and are rooted aquatics in freshwater and marine habitats. Still there are many that are terrestrial with various sizes, forms, and longevity. Angiosperms can be small herbs, shrubs, giant trees, vines, parasitic plants, or lianas. They differ in chemistry, genome size, and reproductive morphology. Notwithstanding the diversity, angiosperms are unified by a suite of synapormorphies, nonetheless. These include having ovules that are encased within a carpel, a structure composed of an ovary. In turn, the ovary encases the ovules. The carpel is also made of stigma; it is where germination of pollens occurs. epiphyte plants also share a common feature in double fertilization, a phenomenon leading to the existence of a nutritive tissue found within the seed feeding the developing plant embryo, or simply called as the endosperm. Another is the appearance of stamens having two pairs of pollen sacs, the features of structure and development of gametophyte, and the phloem tissue made of companion cells and sieve tubes. The seeds of angiosperms are formed when an egg is fertilized by pollen in the plant’s ovary, which is located within the flower. The flower has a male or female parts of angiosperm plants. When the ovaries are ripened, they usually bear fruits. Experts believe that the angiosperms are more evolved than the algae, ferns, mosses, and fungi. Thus, they can thrive even on lands; their advanced structures make it possible. When planted, the roots hold in place the plant, and absorb water and the essential minerals. Photosynthesis is very common in angiosperms as well. Their leaves are where the miracle takes place. They manufacture food from leaves, and they are in possession of stems to hold the plant in an upward direction and to allow the passage of water and nutrients into the plants. The significance of angiosperms can be found in your garden. They are the flowers, the houseplants, the herbs and the vegetables. They are also the fruit trees in the yard and in plantation. They are in the building or structure, whenever there is construction. Angiosperm plants are used in manufacturing clothing, fibers, and form the bases of most drugs.
